Welcome to Custer American Legion Post 46
Custer Post 46, American Legion Department of South Dakota is a Veterans Organization, located in Custer SD.
We proudly serve Veterans, their Families and the Community.
Over 100 years ago, in 1919, The American Legion was founded on Four Pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Each of these pillars encompasses a variety of programs that benefit our nation’s veterans, its service members, their families, the youth of America and ordinary citizens. Since 1919, Custer Post #46 American Legion, for God and Country, has been dedicated to support Veteran's affairs and community Americanism. Named after General George A. Custer, and inheriting the MG Fredrick Steele G.A.R. Post #94 mantle, which had been organized on 7 Dec. 1885. One of our Post Homes was originally located, overlooking Legion Lake in Custer State Park. The origin of the name for Legion Lake, is because the South Dakota Department of the American Legion developed a tourist camp and the Lake. Post 46 is now located in the Custer School District Administration Building (The old Custer High School) where we meet regularly and conduct various activities. Custer Post #46 is quite active with various programs and events throughout the year. Though many of these activities escape public notice, all are of great benefit to area veterans and to the community. We welcome your interest in our activities and encourage you to become familiar with our Post through this website.
Sincerely,
Glen E. Talley Jr.
Commander, Custer Post #46
